Slurping hot delicious soup in winter is a true delight for kids. However, we moms are so busy preparing the main course items that we neglect how much our kids love to have some starters before the meal. Especially if it is winter, our taste buds crave for something hot apart from the usual tea and coffee. Soups are ideal to serve the guests, even when tea and coffee seem too boring.
I, personally, prefer to make soup since it is easy to make and all my family members like to have it. Also, it is healthy and can easily be served as a replacement for snacks which is oily and unhealthy. Tomato soup is, undoubtedly, the most loved soup among children for its tangy taste. As the ingredients are most of the times available at home, it is much easier to make than other vegetable or non-veg soups. No preparation is needed previously.
I am sharing my favorite tomato soup recipe with fried bread pieces. This recipe is as good as restaurant soups with completely healthy ingredients. Note that this is the only way to make tomato soup. This recipe has only one main ingredient- tomatoes. This is perhaps the easiest one, according to me to make the tangy delicious tomato soup. This recipe, I am sharing, will serve two people. You can increase the servings by increasing the ingredients proportionally.

Ingredients For Tomato Soup Recipe
- 4 Medium Size Fresh Tomatoes (Ripe Red Yet Sour Tomatoes Are Suitable)
- 2-3 Garlic Cloves
- 1 Medium Size Onion
- 1 Tej Patta ( Indian Bay Leaf)
- 1 Teaspoon Corn Starch + 2 Tablespoon Water
- 1 Tablespoon Butter
- 1 Cup Water
- 1 Tablespoon Homemade Cream
- ½ Tablespoon Sugar
- 2 Slices of Bread (White, Brown or Wheat)
- Black Pepper Freshly Crushed As Required
- Salt to Taste
How To Make Tomato Soup With Fried Bread Pieces At Home?
1. First, remove the stems from tomatoes and wash them nicely.
2. Now take a saucepan and heat about 5-6 medium cups of water.
3. Let the water boil nicely and then turn off the flame.
4. Add tomatoes immediately after you switch off the flame.
5. Now close the pan with a lid.
6. Make sure there is sufficient water to immerse the tomatoes.
7. Let the tomatoes cook inside the pan for about 20-30 minutes.
8. In the meantime, we prepare other ingredients.
9. Chop onions and garlic finely.
10. Now we need to shallow fry pieces of bread.
11. For this cut bread slices into rectangle or cube shaped. (Try to get the shape as perfect as possible)
12. Take a kadai and heat oil in it.
13. Once the oil is hot, shallow fry bread pieces and take them out. (Make sure they don’t absorb too much oil)
14. Next take one teaspoon corn flour and mix it well with 2 tablespoons of water. The mix should be free of lumps.
15. Now we get back to the tomatoes. Filter away the water and keep the tomatoes to cool down.
16. Then peel off the skin of tomatoes. This will come out very easily as the tomatoes are cooked now.
17. First cutting the tomatoes in big pieces remove the seeds carefully.
18. Take the blender jar of Mixer Grinder and chop the tomatoes directly in it. Make sure all the juice falls into this jar directly.
19. Now blend the tomatoes nicely into a puree without lumps.
20. Next take a pan and heat butter.
21. Once it melts, add tej patta and sauté for not more than ten seconds.
22. Lowering down the flame, sauté chopped garlic.
23. After this add chopped onions and sauté until they shrink and become light brown.
24. Now add tomato puree to this.
25. Add water to get the consistency you want and Stir it well.
26. Add salt and crushed pepper ( add pepper according to desired taste).
27. Let the soup boil with gentle bubbles on low flame and keep stirring.
28. Then take the corn flour mix, we made earlier, and stir it well again.
29. Add this to the soup and stir well.
30. The consistency of the soup depends on individual preference. Some like it thick while other like it thin. So let the soup thicken and add water according to your preference.
31. Now add cream and stir well, let it thicken.
32. Then add sugar and stir.
33. Once you get the consistency you desire, you can turn off the flame.
34. Pour steaming hot soup into soup bowls.

How To Serve This Tomato Soup Recipe?
35. Add chopped parsley to garnish.
36. Right before you serve, add the bread pieces you fried earlier.
37. These pieces should be crisp and so do not add them long before serving or else they will be soggy when your guest will have them.
38. For garnishing, you can also add thick cream in designs like dot or circle to make the presentation more attractive.
Tips and Precautions:
- Instead of frying the bed, there is another method to make bread crispy. First just toast the bread on a tava or heat bread slice in oven at 200 Degree Celsius and toast till it is brown and crispy. Then cut the bread slice into small pieces.
- The taste of your soup will mostly dependent on the quality of tomatoes you use. Tomatoes should be perfectly sweet and sour and fresh.
- Some people avoid onions. This will not make much difference to the taste as onions don’t blend with the puree. However adding garlic is essential.
- Corn starch is important for adding thickness to the soup. This can also be avoided since some people prefer adding more cream to get the thickness. But is you add corn starch , make sure the paste is smooth.
- You can add pepper and salt separately in cups depending on each individual’s taste.
While some people avoid onions, some use deep fried onions for garnishing for that extra crunch while you drink the soup. Also, you can use coconut cream instead of ordinary cream. Using butter instead of oil for frying adds to the rich texture of the soup. But those conscious of calories can avoid using lot of butter. Some people add grated cheese to garnish. Just sprinkle the shredded cheese lightly over the servings without immersing them in soup. My tomato soup recipe is only one among many ways to make this soup. There are other methods which involves other vegetables too. However this is the simplest method which is equally tasty with good creamy texture.
